Over the course of this 2-hour session, we will explore different techniques and creative approaches for crafting original songs from scratch. The direction for this session is food-themed and will be largely focused on the lyrical writing process, so no musical knowledge is required. We will cover some of the key elements of lyric writing; such as structure, rhyme scheme and rhythmic pulse. By the end of the workshop, we will have cooked up something special as a group, which will later be compiled into a fully complete song with music to be performed by our Community Grocery Singing-for-Fun group at our Celebration event on 26.09.24. If you would like to learn to sing this song, feel free to join the Singing-for-Fun group every Thursday 10:30-11:30am in the Reid Room at St Barnabas Church Hall, it’s free for all.

This workshop will be led by Kel Profitt. ‘I am the Assistant Worship Pastor at St. Barnabas Church. I also gig regularly as a live musician around the local area, often playing covers with bands; however, I do occasionally perform my own original material as a soloist. I studied Film Music and Composition at Leeds Conservatoire (formally Leeds College of Music) and took a Songwriting module in my second year, which was extremely beneficial in developing and furthering my own songwriting craft. I’ve written and recorded many of my own songs, as well as recorded and produced music for other artists and songwriters over the years. I’m still constantly learning new things about music and I love to see others progressing and developing in their own unique style.’
