Bible Conversations Teesside
Bible Conversations Teesside is a mission supported by the Bible Society to help people meet, build community and discover the Bible together and how this points to Jesus. Through a massive advertising campaign, people across Teesside will be invited to find out what the Bible’s really about – in a way that’s social, relaxed and rooted in real life – through Bible Conversations and Bible Courses being held across churches, pubs and cafes.
The advertising campaign kicks off this week so keep an eye out for banners and billboards popping up across the region! And events kick off from September, running across the Autumn.

1. The Bible Course
Beginning in October our Life Groups will be running The Bible Course, and from 6th September our morning sermons will follow this too.
The Bible Course is an 8 week programme which aims to help us understand how all the books, characters and events in the bible fit together and point to Jesus.
For those not currently in a Life Group, The Bible Course will be run in church beginning on Wednesday 7th October 7.30-9pm. This course will be open to both those who are already part of the St Barnabas church family and those who are not.

Whilst not essential there is an attractive Bible Course handbook packed with notes, visuals, journalling ideas and further content.
The usual cost of the course book is £9.99 – but if we put in a bulk order as a church we hope to be able to offer this at a discounted rate. It would also be great to be able to gift copies of the course handbook to enquirers, those new to faith or anyone who would really value a course book but who can’t afford it – so why not order two!
Life group leaders will be given one copy of the handbook per group to share for the duration of the course, to be returned at the end for future Bible Courses.

2. Small Group Bible Conversations
Alongside The Bible Course, St Barnabas will be hosting a series of small group Bible Conversations. Perfect for family and friends asking questions about the bible and faith, these small group conversations are designed for those who are curious about Jesus and are interested in finding out how the bible speaks today. No previous experience is needed!
These sessions are for people curious and exploring faith, rather than those with a longer-standing faith. Please do recommend these courses to family and friends, and if you are unsure whether this is suitable for you personally, please speak to David, Lindsey or the church office.
Each Bible Conversation group meets for 4 weeks and each session lasts around 45 mins. Booking is essential and can be done via the Bible Society website.

3. Luke-Acts Books
The Bible Society has produced special Bible Conversation Teesside editions of Luke and Acts. These are specifically designed not for us but to be given away! To family, friends, neighbours, colleagues with an invitation to discover what the bible has to say about the meaning and purpose of life. This could be through joining in with one of the events listed above, or it could be through offering to meet and read selected passages from Luke and Acts with you. Using 4 carefully selected stories, each copy includes a suggestion of how to get started.
Please be praying about who God might be inviting you to give a copy of Luke-Acts to.
Copies to be given away are limited and can be requested from the office via office@st-barnabas.net.
4. Most importantly, pray!
This is something we can all do. To pray for Bible Conversation Teesside on our own, in our small groups, in church and by taking part in the 12 hours of prayer day on 12th September (see below for details).
Praying that the Holy Spirit would use Bible Conversations Teesside to bring the life changing hope and love of Jesus to many this autumn.
Prayer Day, Saturday 12th September 7am-7pm
On 12th September St Barnabas will be joining with the 24-7 Prayer movement’s Global Week of Prayer: https://www.24-7prayer.com/
Acknowledging that Jesus is Lord of the whole earth, the aim is to pray for our town, nation and world. We will also be using this time to pray for the Bible Society’s Bible Conversations outreach which launches in Teesside on 13th September.
The aim is to have two to three people praying in church each hour between 7am and 7pm.
Taking part is easy!
- Find a prayer partner or two, and sign up to pray for an hour’s slot here (write in your 2-3 names and choose the ‘book room exclusively’ option)
- Turn up at church for your allotted hour and pray in the prayer side chapel using resources and prayer points provided
